The Leadership Academy is an annual event that is hosted by the Virginia Association of the Technology Student Association. Since its creation in 2007, the Leadershp Academy has served as the only academy in the state that is available for young leaders where their skills could be honed and developed. The goal of the academy is to train students to become leaders, with the intent that these students will run for a regional and/or state office position. Last year’s academy was very successful. The group bonded together and utilized team work to accomplish tasks. TSA member Cynthia Griffin said this about the LA, “It helped me become more of a leader than I already was. I was inspired to join the executive council because I liked what I saw. On a personal level, I overcame my shyness.” TSA Advisor Jerry Ridgeway had this to say about the academy, “I have been working with Virginia TSA for over 25 years and the Leadership Academy was one of the most worthwhile things we have ever done.” Overall, we received overwhelming support from the members of the executive council, who ultimately made it a success. This year’s academy is a two day event that encompasses four break-out sessions. The sessions will teach members how to become leaders within their community and schools. This academy will be a great opportunity for advisors to select primer members from their chapter to come and work on their leadership skills, while making new friends within Virginia TSA. |
